Tyrande Whisperwind is one of those characters whom you love to love or love to hate.

Some might even say that it is a love and hate relationship with her. She loves Malfurion and her home. With the burning of Teldrassil, I am sure that she will come back stronger than ever.  Tyrande has many titles, but her most popular is the high priestess of elune. She is also the co-ruler of the night elves.  She was a former general of the night elf sentinels and currently leads the sisterhood of elune.

After Queen Azshara and the highborn fell, Tyrande and Malfurion lead the night elves. The fall happened ten thousand years ago. Tyrande used to stand inside the temple of the moon that stood in Darnassus. Tyrande was the product of both Malfurion and Illidan’s affections. She is part of why Illidan chose what he did. He wanted power thinking this would impress Tyrande, making her pick him.
Her heart chose Malfurion, the druid, over his brother. After the War of the Ancients, Tyrande was then promoted to General of the Sentinels. She protected Kalimdor for well over 10,000 years. This was while Malfurion and the other druids slept in the Emerald Dream. Her and Malfurion ended up adopting a young elf named Shandris Feathermoon. Shandris parents got killed in the war of the ancients.

After the Third War, Tyrande stepped down as general and made Shandris the general. She stepped down as general so she could devote herself to lead her people. When Malfurion became trapped in the Dream, Tyrande went into the dream so that she could rescue her love.  During the Shattering, Tyrande and Malfurion finally wed. They lead their people as one now, both ruling the night elves.
Together, the druid and high priestess helped bring the Worgens back to the Alliance. They supported the worgens every step of the way down to giving them a place in Darnassus. Tyrande also regained the night elf control over Ashenvale. All this happened as a result of the Alliance/Horde war.

Tyrande grew up with Malfurion and Illidan Stormrage in her place of birth. She was born in Suramar. Tyrande, Malfurion and Illidan were all inseparable as children. The trio played in the woods, raced, learned to hunt together and Tyrande beat the twin brothers often.  They all encouraged each other to find their callings.
Tyrande found her calling and became a novice priestess in the order of the sisters of elune.  Ash’alah became her life-long companion. That is the frostsaber cub that she met sometime before the war of the ancients.  Before the War of the Ancients, she met an orc named Broxigar. She freed Broxigar from captivity in Suramar. During the war, The temple of elune in Suramar became a refuge. Tyrande helped heal the wounded. While yet both brothers loved Tyrande, she only returned the love to Malfurion. You learn it when you do a quest where you take Illidan’s final words to Tyrande before he sacrifices himself.

Kur’talos Ravencrest led the night elf rebellion to Suramar. The priestesses of the moon put on their armor and joined them. Civilians would join them, and a little orphan named Shandris looked up to Tyrande after that. High Priest Dejahna died due to the Burning Legion. Before her passing, she named her successor, Tyrande Whisperwind.
Elune favored Tyrande and touched by the power of the Goddess; she was still a recruit. She doubted her ability to lead but went ahead and accepted her new role as the High Priestess. It was unanimous, all the other priestesses agreed with this decision. They believed that Tyrande’s abilities were extraordinary. Her abilities were a sign of the approval from the moon goddess herself.

Later on, Tyrande would become abducted by Xavius and imprisoned. In her captivity, they held her in Queen Azshara’s palace. She met Dath’remar Sunstrider while incarcerated who helped her escape. Tyrande felt the powers of Azshara’s gateway grow. She knew they needed to stop the flow of reinforcements, demonic ones. Malfurion decided they need to destroy the well, as that was more than likely the location of the portal.
Cenarius and Alexstrasza were against the destruction of the well. Tyrande loved her immortality and her power but knew that they must destroy this well. If they could only kill it, then they would be able to save their world. She convinced Cenarius and Alexstrasza to go along with the destruction of the well.  Illidan did not want this to happen, so he went to the warn Azshara.

Tyrande and Malfurion were too late, and Azshara was ready for them to show up. She unleashed a magical onslaught that devastated Tyrande and Malfurion.  Tyrande and her sentinels attacked Azshara from behind. Malfurion fought her guardsmen at the front. Tyrande became wounded in this attack. Watching her fall, Malfurion grew enraged.  He attacked Azshara as a result.
This battle threw the Highborne’s spellcraft into chaos. The portal beneath the well of eternity collapsed, and the well gets destroyed. Illidan had stolen vials from the waters of the old wells and poured into a lake creating a new well. Tyrande who survived this battle and her night elves remembered the sundering. They would not attempt to destroy the created well. Illidan’s addiction to magic would be a significant threat to the world and its safety. They imprisoned Illidan to protect the world.

Tyrande together with Malfurion gave up everything to save the world. She has lived up to her name, her birthright; she is a true leader. Tyrande would give up her life to protect her world, her child (even if her child’s adopted), her husband. Some don’t like her unforgiving attitude towards the Nightborne. She only did what she felt best for the alliance! What do you think of Tyrande Whisperwind? Let us know in the comments below; we’d love to hear from you.
