An update from this rookie wrestler in training!
In the last week, I’ve had a few setbacks. I’ve continued my physical training, while slowly adding to my routine. I’m also trying to plan out the next event to make sure the public knows what I’m up to. Here’s the last weeks experience on my “road to the ring.”
COSPLAY WRESTLING FEDERATION
FANIME – LABOR DAY WEEKEND
I spent the weekend in San Jose mostly relaxing, but doing a few favors for other people. Not a lot of people know this, but I do take photos of cosplayers for tips. Right now, I bet you are asking, “Tips? Why not just charge?” There are two reasons I don’t charge a flat fee. Firstly, I’m a hobbyist. I love photography, and fully acknowledge I’m not the best photographer. But, I enjoy capturing moments for myself, and others. Secondly, cash is king. If you pay me a bit, I feel compelled to deliver the best photo I can, and not just some random shot. Finding time to shoot isn’t always easy. With the schedule I have this summer, I don’t always have the time to do full photo shoots. This helps me compensate an already crunched schedule.
So, the biggest Cosplay Wrestling Federation event of the year, Fanimania, kicked off its fifth annual show on May 27th at 7:00 p.m. I was supposed to close the show with me as Mario confronting Phoenix Wright after the Championship round of promos. Due to a lack of time, they removed this routine from the show. I will say that I was disappointed. The crowd was boisterous, and this felt like a great moment to connect with them. However, I did get to perform for the crowd in a “special match” with another performer as Reality from an episode of South Park. The crowd seemed to resonate with a strong show of two smack-talking veterans. So, I can take some pride in that.

After Fanimania, several fans and performers were talking outside the Fairmont Hotel. Supreme Pro Wrestling booking agent, Donovan Troi, made an annoucement to those there. I had been keeping a secret for a solid two months, and I wanted everyone to be aware: I had a tag team match coming up!
My next opportunity will take place on July 7th at 10:00 p.m. at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles.
I need to get back into my physical training. After going from Ontario Comic-Con Revolution one weekend to Fanime the following weekend, and working my day-job in between, I haven’t devoted the time I need to toward keeping myself as fit as I can.
I am using The Men’s Health Magazine UK 12-Week Body Plan as a template. Moreover, these are my workouts this week from the plan:
- 6 Lying Hamstring Curls (120 lbs.)
- 10 Weighted Glute Bridges (70 lb. barbell)
- 4 Walking Dumbbell Lunges (40 meters with 25 lb. dumbbells)
10 SETS (Completed in 25 minutes)
- 6 Front Squats (65 lbs.)
- 10 Squats (65 lbs.)
- 6 Barbell Rollouts
- 12 Hanging Leg Raises
- 12 Decline Dumbbell Crunches (10 lbs.)
3 SETS OF 6 EACH:
- Incline Dumbbell Bench Presses (125 lbs.)
- Decline Dumbbell Bench Presses (125 lbs.)
- Dumbbell Bench Presses (125 lbs.)
3 SETS OF 6 EACH:
- EZ-Bar Preacher Curls (80 lbs.)
- Incline Dumbbell Curls (35 lb. dumbbells)
- Kneeling Overhead Cable Curl (50 lbs.)
- Triceps Dips (40 lb. offset)
- Decline Lying Triceps Extension (70 lbs.)
- Standing Overhead Triceps Extensions (57.5 lbs.)
30 MINUTES ON THE TREADMILL (2.8 mph/Fat Burn Setting)
One of my friends utilizes this plan for his workout routine. Moreover, at his request, I have added a cardio workout to my weekly routine to help keep me at my peak fitness
The problem I have stems from limited resources. This creates a problem when eating healthily is MUCH more expensive than eating Taco Bell. It’s the reality many deal with when trying to remain healthy.
Here is a photo of me from this week. I am not an Adonis at 5’ 7” and 255 lbs. However, I don’t think I’m as bad as I could be. I have been told I don’t look my age or my weight. Backhanded compliments, I know… but I’ll take it!
In the meantime, my wife is supportive of my ambitions. She tells me to “not get paralyzed.” Very loving of her. I think that’s a reasonable request. In an effort to stem off my impending ‘paralysis,’ (sarcasm intended) my pro-wrestling-experienced friend has arranged for me to get a crash course in wrestling techniques after San Diego Comic-Con. This will help propel me foward in my desires and dreams in the ring.
This road has a long way to travel, however, I plan on going the distance. I will give you an update next week! Thanks for being part of my journey!
