Sion is the ultimate tank, with damage mitigation and the ability to pound the enemy even in death he is an admirable foe and ally. We will discuss the optimal build for Sion for winning the game for your team and will dive deep into the overall mechanics of this champion.
Glory in Death
“After being killed, Sion will reanimate with rapidly decaying Health. His attacks become very rapid, gain 100% Lifesteal and deal bonus damage equal to 10% of his target’s maximum health.”
“Sion charges a powerful swing in an area in front of himself that will deal damage to enemies when released. If he charges for enough time, enemies hit by the swing will also be knocked up and stunned.”
“Sion shields himself and can reactivate after 3 seconds to deal Magic Damage to enemies nearby. When Sion kills enemies, he passively gains maximum health. Passive: Sion gains 4 maximum health when he kills a unit (15 for champion kills, assists, large minions and large monsters).”
Roar of the Slayer
“Sion fires a short range shockwave that damages and slows and reduces the armor of the first enemy hit. If the shockwave hits a minion or monster, it will be knocked back, damaging, slowing, and reducing the armor of all enemies that it passes through.”
“Sion charges in a direction, ramping up speed over time. He can steer his charge slightly with the mouse cursor location. When he collides with an enemy he deals damage and knocks them up based on the distance he has charged.”
Players who start with these items see an increased win percentage of 51.4% according to League of Graphs.
The difference between these starting items and others is almost a 10% difference with 61.7% of matches one with this build. This is probably the most significant difference we have seen so do not waiver from these items at your core build.
This last piece surprises us but the win percentages can’t be questioned. With a 59.9% win percentage this last item is the way to go. Keep in mind you will have some spots to fill and fill them according to match up and circumstance.
Building in this skill order shows that players selecting Q, W, and E in this particular order get a win percentage of 54.5% of all games played.
Runes and Keystones
Despite being the least popular Runes and Keystones for Sion, you will see the highest win percentage at 52.2% wins with these Runes and Keystones. This build is Inspiration/Resolve focused with keystones to include glacial augment, magical footwear, biscuit delivery, time warp tonic, bone plating, and second wind. It makes Sion very tanky and nearly unstoppable.
Sion overall is probably the tankiest champion in the game. When used effectively he can conquer towers and champions with equal precision and accuracy. He fairs well against Ryze, Gnar, and Mordekaiser with an increased win percentage when laning against these champs. Be careful when going against Camille, Wukong, and Volibear. These three champs do not usually equal a high win percentage for Sion when paired against them.
