Online Beta Opens Today; PC Gamers Still Waiting
Early access beta testing for Red Dead Online begins today, beginning with the Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Owners, who get admission one day early. On November 28th, gamers who played RDR2 on launch will be allowed in. The next day, gamers who played on launch and October 29th will funnel in. Finally, the full open beta will release on November 30th.
Given the insane popularity that GTA Online continues to have on PC, there is a lot of interest around its cowboy successor. However, there remains no confirmed PC version of RDR2. Still, we can get a glimpse at what the old west will look like with many competing players.
Rockstar said in an announcement, “The launch of the Red Dead Online Beta is the first step in what will be a continually expanding and dynamic world, and the beta period will allow us to deal with the inevitable turbulence of launching any online experience of this size and scale.”
Rockstar looks to the community of beta testers to report and fix problems. The community will also share ideas about the future of the online experience.
The announcement says no details about gameplay, but we will find those out today, as the first wave of testers is loosed upon the game. Rockstar promises to blend “the classic multiplayer of the original Red Dead Redemption with the best of everything we have learned. The result is something completely new and fun, and an experience that will continue to expand and evolve over time.”
GTA Online did not arrive on PC until a year and a half after its release on consoles. If Rockstar’s previous game is any indication, RD Online is a far-off dream for PC gamers.
