Konsui Fighter: An Innovation On Combat-Based Gaming
Imagine this: you wake up from a coma, and have no idea where you are or who you are. You find yourself lost in a weird realm of chaos, and slowly but surely, your personalities begin to split. That seems to be the running theme in Konsui Fighter: a wonderful game about to release on mobile devices. I had a chance to sit down and interview Logan Jensen, Jas Carpenter and Sean Cornett. They explained the concept in more detail.
Split Personalities
The thing that stuck out with me the most about this game was the ideology of “split personalities.” The combat seems to be done so in a wonderfully-cartoonish manner. What really stood out was the story-line. As you progress through the game, you begin to unleash new characters. It took on the connotation that we all have multiple fighters within us, and that these fighters must combat each other in order to unlock their true potential.

The game flow is also a simplified version of standard mobile combat games. As Logan says: “We noticed that a lot of combat-related games have a strange, unworkable interface. We decided to go against that.” The game’s concept was not only complex, but intense. Starting with a small dream to create a wonderful gaming experience back in 2010; the game plans on launching in Q1 of 2020 for iOS and Q2 for Android.
Hand-Drawn?!
The studio, Circean Studios, has been working tirelessly to create a new kind of combat experience. Rather than relying on 3D models and Mortal Kombat-esque artistry, I was amazed by the fact that this game was hand-drawn. Though when I heard this, I thought it might not look as good as it truly does; my eyes melted when they met the imagery found throughout the game.

It takes on a rather tectonic method of gameplay. You can see some video footage here. This goes to show how fun the game is, but the story goes even deeper than that. It can only be summarized as a combat game where, in order to unlock the true power within the main character, one must battle at the hands of multiple players.
The game, overall, gives a new perspective on gaming. It provides an essence of both uniqueness and conducive imagery. Though it is best to often leave several things unsaid, what I will say is simple. This game is worth checking out. Having done their homework, a number of facets were incorporated into this game that seems to be lacking from the indie gaming world.

Creativity is the innovation that drives a true game. Many will choose to go the easy route. This game went in the opposite direction. I look forward to playing this game when it releases, and you can gain early access here.
