Fortnite takes a page out of the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds playbook.
Epic has announced that they are bringing a Battle Royale mode to Fortnite on September 26th. “100 players. One giant map. A battle bus,” Epic Games said in a press release. “Fortnite building skills combined with intense PvP combat. The last player standing wins.” Players ride in on a battle bus and head into the fray. Building and combat skills are then utilized for domination.
“We love Battle Royale games like PUBG and thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version. A few months ago Epic’s Unreal Tournament team began experimenting with the mode while the original Fortnite team kept updating the core game,” said Donald Mustard, creative director at Epic Games. “To maintain game balance we kept the PvP mode completely separate from the PvE mode. The new Battle Royale mode was so much fun we decided to share it with everyone to get feedback.”
In addition, Epic Games has announced a 25% discount on the Standard and Deluxe Edition Founder’s Packs from September 12 to September 18. “This is also a great time for new Fortnite players to jump in because for one week only we have a 25% discount on our Standard and Deluxe Edition Founder’s Packs,” Mustard said.
Other games have attempted to duplicate the PUBG game model. Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) has announced a Battle Royale mode as well.
