Blizzard Gamescom 2018

Blizzard announced earlier its schedule of mainlining events for Gamescom 2018!

Gamescom is a massive European game expo which takes place each year in Cologne, Germany. As one might expect, Blizzard has a presentation about upcoming events, features, and product related material related to their franchises. All of these events are scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018.

The Schedule for the Event:

The event schedule debuted in the Blizzard at Gamescom app. This app offers an augmented reality tour through booth Blizzard sets up at Gamescom. Furthermore, this app is used to scan items and displays in the Blizzard spot. Also, it offers a chance to win some sweet in-game loot.

Here is a breakdown of Blizzards plans for Wednesday:

  • 10:30  -Opening Ceremony
  • 11:15 – Overwatch Panel
  • 12:30 – World of Warcraft Panel
  • 13:15 – StarCraft Panel
  • 14:30 – Heroes of the Storm Panel
  • 15:45 – Diablo Franchise Panel

Some Points of Interest:

During this time, buzz is being generated about the various franchises of Blizzard. So, what you’ll want to watch depends on which of Blizzards games you find interest. Some points to highlight:

  • First, Blizzard says they’ll be unveiling new Overwatch Content during their stage presentation on Wednesday.
  • Second, as revealed on Twitter, Blizzard is pushing their ‘various Diablo related projects’ to the forefront of fans. One important announcement is a likely scenario of Diablo III coming to the Nintendo Switch. This leak came from Forbes earlier in the week. If you’re like me, you’re expecting an announcement of a new Diablo game. Blizzard may wait until BlizzCon to make a formal announcement. However, they’ve surprised us before. I’ll be watching this one closely.

  • The World of Warcraft panel also holds particular interest to me. In the Gamescom artwork, we see Queen Azshara in the forefront of the visual display. Her Warbringer installment is somehow ‘missing.’ Expect to see big news related to her at Gamescom.

How to Participate:

If you’re not in Cologne for the Gamescom expo, you can watch everything unfold on both Blizzards Youtube and Twitch channels. They will also host an event site for Gamescom. This will feature a variety of streamers and live hosts. This is an exciting year for franchise fans!
